Shims

Shims provide a technical solution for adjusting clearances, compensating for level discrepancies and ensuring the stability of mechanical assemblies. These precision elements enable rigorous alignment of components and optimal load distribution during industrial assembly operations. Suited to demanding environments, they guarantee the structural compliance of your installations and enhance the durability of fixed devices. Selecting suitable shims ensures a stable seating and prevents potential deformation of supporting structures.

About Shims

Shims, offered by the ACBAT brand, are used in various fixing and mounting configurations. They complement the use of other components from the Fasteners & fixings range, such as anchors, threaded rods & bolts, or metric pitch screws. The choice of a shim depends on the load supported by the assembly, the size of the gap to be compensated for and the compatibility of the materials involved. Compliance with dimensional tolerances remains a decisive criterion for ensuring the stability of the final installation.

When integrating these elements, care must be taken to ensure compatibility with the rest of your fasteners, particularly when using hexagon head screws conforming to ISO 4014, ISO 4017 or DIN 933 standards. Adjustment may also involve the use of hexagon nuts meeting ISO 4032 or DIN 934 specifications. Where the assembly requires distribution of the clamping force, the addition of plain washers conforming to ISO 7089 is common practice. Mastering the mechanical characteristics of steel fasteners, governed by ISO 898 for property classes 8.8, 10.9 and 12.9, helps to ensure the integrity of the overall assembly. This technical approach, combining the precision of shimming with the rigour of bolting and fastening, ensures the longevity and safety of mechanical assemblies carried out in industrial environments.
