Anti-vibration mounts (silent blocks, anti-vibration pads) isolate equipment from its frame to limit the transmission of vibrations and structural noise. Rubber-metal mounts, helical springs, stainless steel wire rope suspensions. Loads from 5 to 5000 kg depending on model, natural frequencies from 5 to 30 Hz.

Anti-vibration mounts insert an elastic element between a vibrating machine and its frame to reduce the transmission of vibrations and radiated structural noise. Sizing is based on the mass-spring system principle: the natural frequency of the assembly must be lower than f_excitation / √2 for effective isolation. In practice, a factor of 3 to 5 is targeted to achieve isolation greater than 80%.
Several technologies coexist. Rubber-metal mounts (NBR or EPDM moulded onto metal supports) are the most common. Various geometries are available: simple compression (vertical loads), shear (horizontal vibrations), conical (multiple orientations), and with spacers for mounting between two flanges. Typical loads range from 10 to 1000 kg per mount.
Helical spring mounts (without damping or with integrated viscous dampers) are suitable for very low excitation frequencies (compressors, large motors) where rubber cannot provide a sufficiently low natural frequency. Typical natural frequency is 4 to 8 Hz.
Braided stainless steel wire rope mounts absorb shocks and vibrations in all directions, making them ideal for sensitive electronics, aerospace or military equipment, and transport applications.
For generator sets, compressors and centrifugal fans, the isolation calculation considers total mass, minimum excitation frequency (often the rotational speed), mass distribution and the number of support points. An incorrect calculation can amplify vibrations rather than attenuate them (resonance).
Variants for special environments: silicone for very low or very high temperatures, anti-vibration mounts made of fluorinated elastomer for chemical resistance, and seismic mounts for buildings in earthquake-prone areas.
